Heading for the other side
While many of us may have wished XML and Web Services would just go away, there appears to have been such a huge committment of resources by industry to the idea of XML based web services, that it appears we are at a point of no return. We are going through the swamp rather than backing out of it.

I think Tim Bray is correctly hoping that some reasonable distillations will appear out of all the 'noise'.
