Interesting, but there is more
I am willing to accept your assertion that the deployment issues have been eased, and that certainly is worth applauding. But once the migration began, other attractive features began to surface.

One I'll touch on is reliability. No matter what, the more stuff you have at the edge the more there is to go wrong. This means more visits by support personnel.

Okay, I'll admit it is conceivable that the reliability factor can be diminished, but it would be hard to predict by how much. But then we bring up the question of how much knowledge does that support person have to carry? If the client is an office suite and a browser, we can really concentrate and be pretty certain of getting the right resource to the right problem. If the user is storing results centrally, we could even send the support out with a replacement client - quick swap, bring the old one to the central shop for repair, disposal, whatever. But if clients once again begin to differentiate, the tech needs to be armed with more knowledge to fit the different combinations they might encounter. And the logistic support, training, etc, get more expensive. These are the kinds of things we're trying to get under control.

Actually, it's unlikely I would need to put another technology on the table for study. We have the sometimes dubious advantage of vendors crawling all over us, and at the moment the story is consistent - webify. If one comes in with the latest and greatest, encouraging us to once again install operational software on the desktop, that would be an indicator that the complex client is making a comeback. I would be much more successful selling a study under those circumstances.

Thrasher's, yeah. Grotto? I seem to have a knack for showing up at the exact time and place of a great spill - pizza, beer, coke, you name it - never see the place clean. But what about that ice cream parlor two blocks south (off the boardwalk).
