.net "strategy"
The .net strategy is not any different from any of the rest of MS strategies: Invest heavily in PR/marketing to PROMOTE an idea that is NOT there yet and will not be a tangible PRODUCTION product until after 3-5 years.

Why does the "stategy" change so often? Because MS presents what amounts to a number of bull_hiting sessions as a "coherent design of an architecture that will re-innovate the disributed computing model as we know it"

And what is .net? It is all the Java ideas christened with new nick-names. Would MS ever come up with something original and with some intrinsic value? MS has NO capability to design CLEAN and SOUND architectures, because this is NOT their objective.

Their effort has and focusing only on the attraction of new customers and the secure lock in of the victims to the web of interconnected "technologies" that make it impossible to move out unless you are willing to scrap huge amounts of money, man-hours and infrastructure.

I accept that their office suite is a decent one for common office tasks. It is OK for UP TO the WORKGROUP level. And that is it.

They spent 10s of millions of man-hours to FINALLY procuce a PERSONAL COMPUTER "OPERATING SYSTEM". And ms windows REMAINS LARGELY a ONE USER SYSTEM!

What a waste of resources: Imagine how much better off the IT industry would have been if the infrastructure was based on more robust architecutrers and platforms. Maybe the GUIs wouldn't be so snazzy (Barbie like really) but at least people would be spending time PRODUCIVELY solving real problems AND NOT "upgrading", re-re...patching, virus cleaning, re-installin, etc. this office suite of programs really.

Yes, it took MS engineers 20 YERAS(!!) to finish a PC os. Now they are ready to connect everything to everything using .net! This is so laughable happy happy wink ....
