.NET vs Java the platform
.NET does not recomplexify the client more than Java does.

.NET does not inherently propose a thick client. ASP.NET is arguably the best model/framework to write web applications to date.

In fact, comparing .NET with Win32, there is a huge leap forward in the way the applications are written and it all deals with complexity. It is much simpler to write .NET applications of any kind.

It is doubtful that thick clients are going to go away, even in the enterprise and in this case .NET has a very valuable proposition vs Java, being faster, more integrated with the underlying OS, simpler to develop with and more powerful in terms of features and tools.
