Yeah, I'd say that's "installed clandestinely"

Especially since WhenU (don't know about others..) DOES NOT SHOW UP in Windows Add/Remove programs..

So, if you didn't read the EULA.. all of the sudden, you've got ads that you don't want coming from nowhere.. with no obvious means to rectify the situation.
