A software patent would mean no Microsoft Excel as it would have been prevented anyone from coding thier own orginal ideas on that whole concepts.

The problem with software is it's too broad. How can you patent clicking a mouse. Amazon did it with thier check out software. No one can make software to do the same thing no matter how differnt the method of doing so. If it takes one click to do it you violate the patent. That's stupid.

If you build a game engine you could infringe on a number of patents. So even if my idea is revolutionary I could be shut down before anyone even hears my idea.

Don't think it will happen. Well it's happened before in the oil and gas industry. Fuel efficient carberators were invented in 1940s but were crushed under broad patents. Sure you can try and fight it but good luck against giants like the oil gas industry.
