You're probably right.
"If they went through with it, it would be to get rid of
competition...."

It looks like Ellison has been able to accomplish that without
going through with it. All he has to do is continue saying that he
wants to buy them out and their customers will keep bailing out.
Ironically, the ones who've been driven away have probably been
driven to SAP, Siebel, IBM and other companies, so the only two
companies who aren't benefitting are Peoplesoft and Oracle. It
really makes me wonder who Ellison is working for.
