I forgot to mention...: The article you referred to is pretty worthless.

No actual benchmarks to back up what it says. Just useless rhetoric.

The article pretty much lost all credibility by stating:

"Unfortunately, the Java language has not changed for four years, so it doesn't seem like these [performance improvements] will be implemented any time soon."

Absolutely false statement. Java has gone through a number of versions in the past 4 years, each with notable performance improvements. See this:
