No...actually dongle protection is easy to get passed...
Basically if they could not replicate the dongle, they would break the code that looks for a dongle.

I knew an engineer one time (mechanical, not software) who used some kind of design program that required a dongle. Even taking into account it was not nearly as popular as the Windows operating system, he was still able to find a hack/patch that allowed him to no longer require the dongle.

The reason he did this...it was not because he didn't buy the version he used...but the dongle kept falling off the back of his computer or he would lose it. I actually think his cat knocked it off...but anyway, it was such a pain in his rear he finally circumvented the "protection" for his own sanity.

I'm sure they have made advances in dongle technology...but no matter how you slice is, the software is just lines of code...and eventually someone smarter than those in Redmond will find a way around it.

Here is what I don't understand. I think piracy of the Microsoft OS was really at its height back in the days of DOS, Windows 3.11, Windows 95...
Yet even with it being so heavily pirated...in fact EVERYONE I know had a pirated copy...every company I worked at had pirated copies on most of their machines...it was as common as tires on a car.
Yet somehow, with all this piracy and lack of copy protection, Microsoft still grew to be the monopoly they are...with unchallenged wealth and power.

So...in other words...whats all the beef about? It seems that even with the pirates out there, MS is making more than enough money. Since they can't beat the pirates anyway, why keep pissing off their paying customers with this kind of stupid and ridiculous copy protection crap they keep trying to push, implement, or develop?
It makes no sense....
