They copycat because that is what people looking to migrate to Linux from Windows want. The problem with this approach, of course, is that people who would only migrate to Linux for better feature support are left wanting (why move to Linux when I already own Windows.. and Windows already does everything I need?)

I don't see anything like the Firefox ad block extension coming from any proprietary software company (or, if it did by some innovative developer.. it was quickly shot down by management..
