[sigh] Irrelevant.
Yeah, yeah, MS is a convicted monopoly and all that. No, that's not relevant. Even a "convicted" monopoly can still do a lot of good. (although the market may suffer to a varying degree.)

We have to be unbiased here. There's really nothing wrong with big business. If we are wary of them, big businesses can do us a lot of good.

Now, I don't see a lot of benefit that can come from a monopoly. Prices go up and innovation goes down. That accounts for the sudden rise of Linux/OSS on the desktop, now that it is viable for many people.

So I don't really see any reason to complain. Competition is coming into the market, and yet many people still benefit from Microsoft's software. And no matter how many projects they open-source, you won't have to use any of them.
