Piracy is good for Microsoft. They don't want you to use Linux.
Piracy is a way that Microsoft can let people use their products for free if they can not afford them. Then, Microsoft can go after the companies with money and make them pay full price. Notice that BSA never atacks poor schools, individual households, etc. They know about the violations and do nothing. They understand that they would just drive this group to Linux/OpenOffice/FireFox/Evolution.

What they are doing in Russia is try to reduce the number of new computers sold with Linux. The trick to bypass Microsoft at retail is to pre-install Linux, letting customers take the computers home and load XP and MS Office for free. But, 5% or so might try Linux and like it. And, this increases the awareness of Linux.
