If I'm wrong correct me, but...

It's always been my understanding that that particular software WAS open source, but just not free in cost (meaning it does cost an arm and a leg, but you do get the source code). And that the cost covers distribution and an extremely strict support contract, which is indeed allowed by the GPL. And that you CAN redistribute the source code per the GPL, but you risk losing support and forfeiting all monies paid for such support if you install that software on more hardware than your service contract allows.

Again, if I'm wrong and it is a proprietary licence, please do correct me.
