Car Analogy
To all the people comparing security holes in IE to various mechanical problems with cars:

If IE didn't fire up, or stopped working after 3 web pages, or wouldn't display contents, that would be a "mechanical problem with the vehicle" that could be compared to tires falling off or holes in the gas tank.

If someone takes a high-power rifle and shoots a hole in your gas tank or puts spikes on the road and blows out all your tires, that would be comparable to a virus or hacker "breaking IE".

There's a HUGE difference.

If you buy a standard car, with a CD player even, and you take it to a war zone, I really don't think you'd be in the right to sue the manufacturer when the car didn't protect you (or itself) from a hand grenade that was thrown into the back seat through the window that was blown off by a nearby mine explosion.

If you want a vehicle that can survive in that kind of environment, you AT LEAST get one with bulletproof windows and kevlar plates in the body. Really what you need is an M1-A1 tank with 5" thick steel armor if you want to be somewhat more secure.

So, why don't you buy one of those? (A) Cost and (B) perceived necessity.

The current Internet is a battleground. Everyone who's ever had their computer hacked or their identity stolen, who's ever had a computer virus or had a worm steal their credit card numbers, who's had an e-mail inbox flooded with spam or suddenly found their whole hard drive clogged with spyware, can attest to this.

Don't drive into it in a Honda Civic and expect it to be bulletproof.
