What a surprise
Sony introduces a music player that doesn't support MP3. Said music player doesn't sell. Wow.. who'd have predicted that?

Let me state it simply:
Consumers don't want DRM. DRM doesn't sell. If there's a choice between a product with DRM and a similar one without, consumers will always choose the one without it.

Is that clear enough?
