Dear backwoods capitalist *special* person
Who the hell are you or SCO to say that the GPL is wrong and that us software manufacturers should stop giving stuff away for free.

I am a game designer and we create FREE games under the GPL using the Python language. I work full time, have a family and a life, and spend 6-8 hours a weekend programming. We are also in the process of creating a new game engine using some unique processes and coding styles. Yes, these will be unique. And oh yeah, Mr. Windows (l)user: Our games are for *nix ONLY. Our GPL will have a condition that it NEVER be ported to Windows. It is our sole purpose to programming games to drive innovation on the *nix platforms. And the games we create are NOT tic-tac-toe or pac-man. SCOx will not be provided a port of our games, and if there is anything left of SCO once IBM scrapes them off the steamroller, SCO should feel lucky if there aren't any Linux users that they served who are waiting to sue. Especially Linux users who paid the hostage fee. Have you read the notice that SCO sent to Linux users in small companies with over 20 linux machines? The people that pay SCO's hostage fee for the use of Linux give-up their rights to sue SCO in the event that the court finds in favor of the defendant (IBM).

What does this mean? It means SCO has NOT proven their allegations of infringement, and until it is proven, SCO is trying to convince Linux users that they will be held accountable unless they pay the hostage fee to use Linux under SCO's usage license.

I'm pretty sure that so many idiots out there are asking "can I pay via credit card or check?" to SCO's ransom note. I for one am confident that SCO has a crappy poker hand and Darl McBride wrongly believes that he is the king of poker faces as opposed to the king of fools.

And for the record, Darl is wrong when he says "We are in a tug-of-war between those who believe software should be free and those who think proprietary licensing is OK". Every software designer at every level would love to make money doing what he loves. Software costs are getting higher and higher, and the products get lousier and lousier. The public and end-users are getting tired of spending $399 for a product that is extinct in 12 months (Macromedia Studio MX) when the new version comes out and they have to learn IT. Give them a comparable product that is enjoyable and makes production easier and at under $100, and I guarantee they will choose it over a $399 product.

Example: Macromedia Flash. Takes a while to learn, no mercy for the beginner. And a hefty pricetag at $499 ($699 for Professional). http://www.swishzone.com/ has a product called Swishmax that takes minutes to learn and create your first Flash movie. AND you don't have to take a class at college for it. While not GPL or free, it proves that some companies know how to produce a comparable product at a really reasonable price of $99. You get Flash and save cash.

SCO knows it can't compete against Linux as long as Linux is free. And there is no judge anywhere in the US of A who would force free software vendors to charge money. This attack by Darl and SCO proves that SCO is desperately strapped for cash (they just took out a loan recently to keep the company afloat, and are hoping that the suit goes in their favor so they can pay the loan back).

So go back to drooling over Darl McBride's speech and Bush's last speech and save yourself the humiliation.

I have 100 licenses for Linux, so try and sue me Darl. Better yet, nibble lovingly on a hemmorhoid like you did your mom's teet.
