Oracle got a bad rap
I see absolutely nothing wrong with the attempt by Oracle to take over peoplesoft. This is just consolidation in the industry. If MS can have a lock on the O/S and office productivity soft then Oracle is entitled to have a lock on the db soft.

What a lot of It folks are discovering is that while huge db enterprise soft is necessary for large companies. The massive amounts of data gathered are seldom at that useful and thus the cost of such does not justify the benefit, which is why the discounts are necessary.

Most companies don't have the time or expertise to analyize that data that these apps gather and end up using them for the most mundane and or necessary tasks. The bottom line is the market is adjusting the value of these apps to what they should be.

Finally I don't understand why Oracle does not offer a smaller db equivalent to access. There are millions of smaller companies that could benefit from a small highly efficient db, but don't need all the complex enterprise features that Oracles 10g product has.
