Yes, but...
...AOL DOES have their own technology which has existed since 2003. If, as the article suggests, this is a horse race between Yahoo, AOL and MSN, then that might have a lot to do with AOL's decision, too.

Granted, the IETF rapping MS on the knuckles was a good (and well deserved) pretext, but still, competition is competition.
