ms blew it
sender id WAS ramping up to be really great thing. it was an anti-spam method that was getting a lot of attention from several major players in industry, it had the momentum to become a defacto standard and it would have been a great thing for ms to give 'back' to industry and community as a whole. they had the opportunity to make a very good name for themselves with this, then they threw it all away by locking down the licensing, etc. if they had released it open source or with a loose enough license, they would have been the one to follow.
