- Yes, you can choose not to use the TiVo services
- The TiVo services are nice but not requried to use the device. Also, TiVo is but one piece of the puzzle. Remember, TiVo is a playback device used primarily for time shifting shows. TiVo does not create media. You can attach a VCR or DVD burner to archive things but I don't for my purposes. Your comments about home automation are right on. I do not object to MS Media Center, all I am syaing is that you can all these wonderful things and not have to use MS Media Center. I think it is good we have choices and I hope that this effort by MS will further strengthen Fair Use arguments. The vast majority of us just want devices to work as advertised and with little hassle. My TiVos have never crashed like my Windows PC. My TiVo boxes do not attract Trojans or worms like my Windows XP PC does. That is why I will continue to use TiVo and that is my choice. Some day down the road my choice may change.
