The article seems a bit misleading about KDE
There is no Mozilla for KDE. Instead what it will be is the same old Konqueror you're used to, but instead you'll be able to choose between KHTML or Gecko as your rendering engine.

Now, what does that mean? Obviously if KHTML doesn't render a page properly then Gecko will (although the KHTML in KDE 3.3 seems almost up to par with Gecko in Firefox 0.9.3, so I don't know how much an advantage that will be). And Netscape type plugins already work for both browsers, so there's no advantage there either.

What is unclear to me though is whether Firefox extensions will work in Konqueror if you use the Gecko engine. Because, for me anyway, that is the thing that has me leaning towards Firefox. I prefer the Konqueror interface overall over Firefox, but not THAT much more. Not enough to lose the extensions.

And the other thing that has me leaning towards straight Firefox over a Geckoed Konqueror is that it IS such a small install. Now normally that's not such a big deal when you have KDE installed anyway because Konqueror is already installed. However, my KDE is a x86_64 build, and as people who own Athlon64's know, 64-bit web browsers do not work with 32-bit plug-ins (particularly Flash). That means I have to keep a 32-bit browser on my machine if I want to view web pages laden with multimedia. Now, for Firefox that's just an 8MB binary install (or it is possible to build it from source, but to me that isn't worth all the effort, especailly since a binary install is so danged easy). To get a 32-bit build of Konqueror, though, basically I have to install or build the ENTIRE KDE package just to get a working web browser. Well, maybe not everything, but most of the bigger packages. And the only real advantage I get is a KDE look and feel. It's not worth it just for that. So until we actually get a 64-bit Flash I'll stick with 32-bit Firefox for most of my browsing.
