Not to pick too large a nit, but...
Your argument would work much better if you properly attributed the history of features. Says you, "Those few proprietary extensions ... really deserve to be consigned to the same bit bucket that ate Netscape 4's scrolling marquee and the blink tags." Problem is: the blink tag was in Mosaic, preceeding Netscape, and Microsoft introduced the marquee tag. I agree though that all the mentioned features (blurred text, marquees, blink tags, and gradated buttons) do naught but eat up processing power and are best consigned to the bit-bucket. They are better achieved; if absolutely needed, with other more robust and standard technologies.
