Sun has an identity crisis
Either Sun should go into the software market or the hardware market, it can't seem to manage both.

Why do people use Solaris today? Mostly because that is what came with on the UltraSparc server that the IT department mortgaged the farm on, it was not a choice. I have tried to use x86 Solaris on two different occasions and the results were the same, we dumped it in favor of something else. Solaris is great when you have a 64 processor server, but put it on a small machine and it constantly accesses the swap file. Solaris is a pig.

If Sun were smart they would dump Solaris all together, go back to concentrating on the hardware. UltraSparc hardware is very solid, if they could bump up the speed of the CPU's they would be back at the top of the hill. Sun should stop just playing with Linux and use it exclusively, port all of their apps over to it and close the doors on it's OS shop. If Sun continues to beat this dead horse (Solaris) Bill Gates is going to end up running Longhorn on Sun Servers. Are you Linux zealots laughing? You just wait and see...
