Microsoft fails in their attempt to "own" e-mail.
The headline of this article should read "Standards group blocks Microsoft bid to control e-mail."

Microsoft had hoped to use "Caller-ID" to control e-mail by changing the license one "Caller-ID" was widely adopted. Fortunately the IETF has seen through this transparent attempt to embrace, enhance, and extinguish an important part of the Internet.

The Internet became popular due to the use of open, unemcumbered, standards at a time when most users were trapped in proprietary "walled-gardens". How soon we forget.
