But you have stated the communist view
in the base ideal of the GPL. To each according to his needs, from each according to his abilities. If I need to derive work from other GPL work (my need) - once completed I have to relinquish my IP back (my ablility).

Ideas are the intellectual property. They can be represented by code - and once code is released into the public domain might actually reveal more ideas than one intended to. So in some aspects the GPL can be a terrible deal for the originator, but a gold mine for the taker.

Now, frankly if that is the system that I freely enter into - I can't have any complaint. And that is fair and is fair use - if I borrow from the system after knowing I have to return then fine. Far different matter than having a form of government forced on me by accident of birth.

However, the sticking point to the whole mess IS who owns IP? Seems that the two camps - proprietary versus open source are stuck at being advesaries strictly due to the GPL.
