Maybe you are just looking at the wrong things. Yes, those programs are copies. However, you have to start somewhere and expand from there. And, yes, most Microsoft products are copies of other products. So what. What you are not seeing, is the innovation underneath those programs. It may not be all razzle-dazzle, but there are some interesting things going on. Then there are other OSS programs that are innovative - IMHO. Very few companies come out with something completely innovative from the get-go. I mean, look at all the home media centers. Hobbiests have been doing that for many years before any company thought about doing it.

The world will never go completely OSS. I can name a few apps we use that are completely written in house. I wrote them. There is no OSS alternative. Probably never will be.
