You may be right. In fact, I hope that you are.
However, since ZDNet hasn't bothered to communicate with it's user base, we just don't know. Massive changes without warning, poorly designed screens with poorly placed links for prev/next/reply, and an overall reduction in the quality of reporting are simply not good business practice.
If ZDNet makes it's money off of advertisers and advertisers pay based on readership, you would think that ZDNet would want to keep it's readership rather than drive them away. There are many longtime posters whose names I no longer see at this site; with a few more lost each and every time they downgrade the site's functionality.
Lately, it seems as if there are onyly two options to explain their behavior : they want to kill the site, or incompetence.
Either way, I find it sad...
