ZDNet is actually geared to the executive side of IT. Note the tag line: "Where Technology Means Business".

My guess is, ZDNet has gotten tired of the usual low-brow rantings, and is looking to reach an entirely different audience. It's rather commendable, actually, in that the number of web hits may no longer be the determining factor in what stories to print.
