- Do Patents today really drive innovation?
-
I have my doubts. Patents were orginally created to protect the work of a person who puts work and effort into creating an new an orginal invention. Now, people are patenting obvious ideas and creations that already exist. It's like, 'Hey, that's a great idea that other person/company has. I think I'll patent it.' Or even worse, I'll submit my format and protocols to XYZ standards body, then when it's a standard use the patent to get rich. Nothing with getting rich from a true invention, but tell the standards body up front the cost of it's use.
I'm all for innovation, but as a standards body, I would a patented technology would have to have be far superior to a technology that was given to turned over to the standards body, before it was incorporated. - Posted by: el1jones Posted on: 09/13/04 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
