- It I had an original memo, I could tell you if it was computer generated
-
If I could get one of the originals, I could defnitely tell you if it came from a computer. It's fairly simple. Grab a magnifying glass, and look closely at the letters. Today's printers all work in the same way: they use dots to create the characters. When magnified, the dots will become obvious.
I'm sure any forensic expert worth their salt could take a document and ID it as computer or typewriter.
But do we have the originals, or just copies?
Unfortunately, copies are harder to work with.
As far as the "th" and curly quotes and centering, etc. It's all possible, but the more things that are wrong, the less chance of it being made by a typewriter. There *are* typewriters that do such things, but they're not too common.
Not to mention centering doesn't require a fancy typewriter: Put a tab in the center, go to it, and backspace once for every two letters you intend to type.
OK, so it's possible they're typed, but personally, I think they're probably fake - too many coincidences that point to a computer. But only a forensic expert will be able to tell for sure.
IMHO, it would be worth it to see if there are any originals around, just so we can lay this to rest. I want to get on to REAL political issues! I'm a lot more interested in what's going to happen in the next four years than what happened thirty years ago. I care no more about Bush's records than I do Kerry's. - Posted by: CobraA1 Posted on: 09/10/04 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
