- Duh... (a long post)

You MS junkies just don't get it. The point of my observation, that Microsoft is in a world of hurt, is not that Microsoft is in danger of extinction, nor even that Windows is waning.
The observation of the egg-head who challenged my comments, that any who disagree should just write their own OS, proves that he, too, is in la-la land.
Microsoft has never provided anything that gave full value for the money exchanged. For crying out loud, it has even become the stuff of which legends are made! BSOD, security-weak and the list goes on...
If you think "most of the enduser population using Linux are geeks themselves," you have no clue as to what is happening. Linux has but a small percentage of enduser desktops and MacOS (Unix derived) is in the same position. But there are millions of endusers who have just been waiting for the right time and opportunity to jettison Microsoft. When that time and opportunity converge, as converge they will, the ripples will be felt far beyond Redmond.
I've been in this biz for a LONG time and I've seen great companies come and go. I remember when Novell was just a suckling infant, and I was around when it became the hottest thing on the Planet...but, I also watched as mistake after mistake took their tolls on Novell's ability to compete in the marketplace, and what is the big N today, but a shell of its former self? True, Novell has some great products, but in the long-haul, it is an also-ran.
This is not about Microsoft not being a worthy competitor (even though it should be clear to a blind man that MS has not--and still does not--play fare in the marketplace, but then, that is the American system, so that's the way it is). It is not about Microsoft having a good or even great product-line.
It IS about Microsoft not being able to field a competitive, secure product at the very time others are making strong inroads into traditional Microsoft strongholds. It is about Microsoft being incapable of securing its own beachhead; in fact, there is a profound analogy to be drawn, of Rommel's Atlantic wall and Microsoft's market-leader standing. In the long haul, it was a fearsome battle that left thousands dead on Omaha Beach, but when the wall finally broke, Berlin burned.
Make no mistake about it: One day, Redmond will burn. - Posted by: ~rpb~ Posted on: 09/13/04 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
