Not effective in real life
And the reason most of these USB managers aren't effective is when you try to implement one then some big shot dept. head comes storming in to the IT director's office all hot and bothered because his microDork handy drive doesn't work anymore. And then the sales manager is right behind him complaining about the restrictions on the sales team's laptops. "We have to be able to work," is the usual line. And of course it's always those damn consultants trying to make everything so it doesn't work. Whatever. That's why in a lot of offices the end result is great security with a few massive, gapping holes intentionally left open.

In this office they're totally death star about connecting outside PC's to the network. They have everything but frickin' sharks with frickin' lasers on their heads to blast outside PC's trying to plug in. So the other day I set my PDA down next to my laptop (connected to the network) and the laptop goes BOOOIIINNG! Connected right up. I could copy files back and forth, no problem.

Strain out a gnat and swallow a camel.
