P2P company sues RIAA over patent

I wouldn't doubt that..: The RIAA is trying to push draconian laws banning P2P networks.. and may just succeed.

The patent seems overly broad with plenty of prior art (come on.. a hash to identify a file??!). I wonder, though, if MediaDefender and Overpeer are guilty of other offenses, though.. What comes to mind immediately is Overpeer violating the Kazaa TOS by hacking their client (I'm not sure if this is what they did - but it sounds like they may have, in order to have their "corrupted" files identified as the real thing). And the methods of MediaDefender sound like a DOS attack, which I believe should be illegal under computer crime statutes.
