Microsoft only company that makes patches that need to be tested
Cobra,

You are being unfair here. This is a much bigger issue than just rolling out a quick little patch to fix a bug or two.

Our company produces a very complex software product (Not as complex as Windows of course) but it involves producing payrolls for large companies with upwards of 100,000 employees. The complexity associated with correctly calculating employee time and attendance given the varying "payroll rules" and labor laws is massive.

Many times we have to roll out a release to our software and many of our clients have dedicated systems set up to run the new release parallel to the one they are using. This is not because our company just deliberately releases bad code as you seem to think Microsoft does - it is because software development of Enterprise-level solutions is incredibly complex. Bugs are a fact-of-life in software development. That you can even suggest that a rollout of this magnitude should be able to be completely tested reveals your lack of knowledge about this subject.

As a developer of some 25 years in this industry I applaud Microsoft's efforts at striking such a moving target as computer security. The fact that Microsoft can roll out such major releases (including simply the roll out of one product like XP) is testament to an incredible level of quality control. That company produces software products that have to run on THOUSANDS of different configurations of hardware. To expect a perfect roll out at any level is pure fancy - that's expecting a level of perfection that simply is not achievable.

The majority of the criticism aimed at Microsoft, Intel and the other players in this industry is nothing more than petty tomato throwing. If most of you critics had ANY IDEA how complex this work is you might think twice about being such eager critics.
