It could be the crap Sony sells
There was a time when Sony meant quality but not today. You pay premium for their products and they quality just is not there anymore. My sony CD player bought in 1988 is still working while my Sony DVD player lasted a whole 6 months. My sony portable CD player lasted a few days over a year. My Sony 5.1 reciever is on the fritz now.

I can tell you this I'm not buying Sony anything again. Panasonic seems to have the quality these days. Having a Panasonic DVD player and TV now I'm amazed at the differnce in quality.

Sony is evil but they sure do put out a lot junk that's not worth the price you pay for it.
