It ain't just mom and pops using open soruce.
Look what JBoss has done. As I recall, they started with less than 10 programmers. You underestimate the power of a small group of programmers that are focused and motivated. Programmers that do not have to deal with stupid mid-level managers, and are not paying salaries for stupid executives. Multiply productivity by 10 compared with a programmer that is sick of seeing all the profits going to salesmen and managers, and also having to deal with mid level managers telling them how to program.. Even at large corporations, you would be suprised how small the group of programmers can be for a large project. So, a group of 10 can do a lot more than you think.

You underestimate the power of freedom for programmers.
