Extensions to XML?
Isn't that redundant? By definition, XML is extensions. That's its whole purpose -- to allow extensions (hence the "X"). Without them, you'd have HTML. The only way XML can be made "proprietary" is for the schemas to be kept hidden. And even Microsoft is opening up its schemas.
