many things that can be done with activeX can be done more securely with Java... and will reach a few more customer too.

not to mention, most conventional web design philosophy will tell you that all the flash might get people to see you site, but won't necessarily get them to stay and look at your site. i've seen too many sites that were fully of flashy elements, but really lacking on content or content was hard to find...
