...I don't see how I could really trust MS with a news portal.

I tried what the fellow suggested in the article. Score: 16 hits using MSN, 9.5+ MILLION using Google.

What was that stunt they pulled on the Opera folks a while back? Being in the advertising biz, I can tell you that goofiness like this will only come back to trout-slap you in the public eye for years to come. Are they totally clueless there in Redmon? Or do they just not care?
