hmmm
ive been buying pcs without anything microsoft on them for years. its easier to do these days, but it has never been that hard. theres lots of manufacturers and oems in the world; no one has ever forced you to deal with companies that for their own marketing purposes only sell pcs preinstalled with microsoft wares.

i *really* hate the 'i didnt have a choice argument'. it is disingenuous, and a slap in the face to all of us who have always proved you *do* have a choice, not to mention the companies making those choices.

my point to this article is that california cant have it both ways; you cant say, were suing for having no choices, but by the way we are considering switching to open-source (wait, i thought there were no choices?!?).

when you put the two together and combine them with the states budget woes, it sounds much more like a tactic for negotiating lower prices, if you ask me, rather than a serious attempt at either point.
