Open source offers short and long term costs savings.
Any number of independent studies have shown open source software, particularly Linux, provides both short and long term costs savings and is more secure than Windoze. The only studies that suggest otherwise have been paid for by MICROSUCKS, which should come as no surprise. MICROSUCKS is the same company that paid to get independent testing companies to claim W2K was faster than NT4, when of course it was not, you may recall. MICROSUCKS is the same company that has been convicted on two continents for violation of anti-trust laws that forced consumers to accept Windoze with the purchase of any new PC. If it were not for MICROSUCKS violation of law, we'd all be using open source software and have thousands of dollars more in our bank accounts.

When you consider the TCO of Windoze, consumers can save a ton of money each year when you don't pay thru the nose for the software, when the O/S is not mandated into obsolescence by MICROSUCKS, when you don't need to apply patch after patch, week after week, when you don't need to pay MICROSUCKS $300 per incident to CONFIRM the 50,000 Plus BUGS in every version of Windoze since W2K, when you don't have to reformat your HD because of multiple Windoze crashes, when you don't lose days or weeks per month in lost productivity due to these crashes, and on and on. Finally the cost of dealing with MICROSUCKS defective Windoze O/Ss has hit the breaking point for many government and enterprises. It's 10 years too late, but better now than never. All we as consumers can pray for is that Dollar Bill and his band of convicted cronies burn in H*LL !
