Cost of a published book:
Publisher's Cost:
Preperation Costs + Paper + Printing Company + Inventory Cost + Authors Fees + Distribution Cost +Profit
Retailers Cost:
Shelf (Rent) Cost + Inventory Cost + Sales People's Wages + Profit

Now lets look at E-Book's cost:
Publisher's Cost:
Preperation Costs + Authors Fees + Profit
Retailer's Cost:
Server Fees + Profit

My point:
When comfortable and cheap e-book readers become available, E-Books will be so much cheaper than paper books that lack of demand for paper books will be prohibitive for publishers to publish paper books. Lesser and lesser paper books will be published each year. Limited number of paper book fans (willing to pay premium) will only be able to keep a small portion of the paper book industry alive.

When you deal with digital property, given that piracy issues are fixed, cost of distribution and stocking is equal to nothing.

I estimate by 2011 it will be very difficult to find a paper-published educational book.(Scool,Campuss and training books)

By 2016 leisure publications will have difficutly finding shell space in mainstream retail outlets.

I believe it is even realistic to expect most publishers go out of business when most authors don't need printing, stocking and distribution services while they can directly go to retailers such as Xlibris and Amazon.
