JibJab beats copyright rap

Not true: "LiCalsi also said that the JibJab movie does not technically classify as a parody of "This Land." In order to qualify legally as a parody of the song, LiCalsi said, the new material must comment on or criticize the ideas represented by the original property. Since JibJab was making a statement about politics, and not Guthrie's song, he said, the film's use of "This Land" was not protected."

Anyone who doesn't think "This Land Is Your Land" was political in nature doesn't know anything about Woody Guthrie. Woody was about as political as they come. "This Land" was a response to greed and the idea of ownership. I don't necessarily agree with Woody's views, but he definitely was political. And the parody, being political also, easily falls into the fair use category.
