well..
you have always had to deal with it, windows firewall is just ICF beefed up and renamed. if you didn't use ICF before, well it was just disabled. In the end people are just complaining about a name change.

And as far as not allowing uninstalling. I completely agree, you should be able to pull out the firewall (as well as anything else) however the people who make the OS say you can't and that is what it is. If you want more go with linux/osx/freebsd.... well you get the idea.
