Clueless
"The current Service pack for XP is for the home version, not the Pro (Professional) version"

Wrong. The SP2 is for Windows XP, both Pro and Home. Microsoft has turned on delivery through automatic updates to the Home versions of XP so far but is about to turn it on for the Pro versions any day now, if they haven't already by the time you read this. The SP is the same for both versions of XP. I've applied it to 2 XP Pro systems so far with 0 problems. One of which was to my machine at work which has more obscure software installed then any of the corporate desktops I maintain so if it worked there it should work on the others. But, I'll be cautious and install it manually on the dew XP mahines I have. Most are still runninig W2K. We're behind a corporate firewall so I'll most likely just disable XP's firewall as opposed to creating exceptions for the remote backup, antivirus and other remote administration utilities I need to keep working.

As ibabadur1 said, this is your job if you work in IT. Get over it and get to work. Complaining that you might have problems isn't getting your job done. If you have problems, find them, fix them and move on. At least, that's how I do my job.
