No, he's not kidding
Waste of time? I think not - this is what network admins, system admins, and IT departments are paid for.

Personally, I'm sick of all of the griping - first it's griping about how insecure Windows is, now it's griping about the work needing to be done to make sure that existing apps continue to work under SP2.

Enhanced security does not come for free. There is always a tradeoff between security and usability.

Is there anyone out there who can do a better job of taking a fundamentally insecure platform and bolt on a good security upgrade that:

1. Caters to IT professionals, developers, etc.

2. Takes care of securing the people who know nothing about PC security and just want to check their email and surf the web.

3. Oh yeah - it can't break any existing apps.

4. Retains the ease of use of the platform.

5. Must be done in a year and a half and delivered for free.

Linux and FreeBSD may get the job done for some people, but they're not mass market operating systems. I can't count the number of times that upgrading a kernel broke device drivers. And no, the source isn't always available to recompile, nor does it always compile correctly against new kernel code.

I'm not a Microsoft shill by any stretch, but I'm trying to be objective here.
