Ok I'll bite
If metadata is data about data, describing the "condition and other characteristics" of the data etc....

I would considered "editied" a condition of the data and would want to know what was edited.

Wouldn't it be possible that previous edits/changes to the data would be considered condition and/or other characteristics of the data.... can you show me where previous edit's and author etc are called out as not able to be metadata?

I personally like to see revisions being part of the metadata, tracking is nice but where is it stored that isn't proprietary? In Metadata it wouldn't be. This actually might be a cool way of having more open document management/tracking between disparate systems.
