You missed the point, but you helped prove it
The very fact that you HAVE to run "anti-spyware" proves the point of how seriously flawed your OS is. The fact that you MUST scan all inbound traffic "before it touches the users desktop" shows what drastic measures must be taken to protect the users from the inherent weaknesses of that OS.

At what point will you begin to question your blind faith in that OS. How much additional cost will you continue to overlook? At what point do you begin to question the on-going virus war, spyware war, popup war, prevent-the-user-from-destroying-it-by-clicking war, etc. How much do these wars have to cut into your productivity? CPU power? Bandwidth? Bottom-line? IT manpower? ... before you allow yourself to question your own assumptions?

Does your blind allegiance cost you in other ways? Perhaps vendor lock-in? How about perpetual upgrades? What happens if your competition switches and begins to reap the winfall of resources afforded by no longer having to fight the previously mentioned "wars"?

A couple of final points for those of you still rational enough to read this far:
1. Microsoft cannot hire enough developers to compete with the world of developers on the other side.
2. Microsoft cannot compete with free, at least not for long.
3. The competition will only get better, and as Opensource nears critical mass, the Microsoft defectors will soon join the army of developers. Some of these defectors currently write software that runs on Microsoft, but they have never been able to improve the OS itself, other than to offer up some suggestions.

There are so many other questions, but I don't have the space. Besides, I'm sure you quit listening a long time ago. Just one more question: Will you be the last one to switch?
