question for you guys
i dont think it's been answered, the question being, when you buy a cd, what are you actually buying? the physical cd, the plastic and metal foil? or are you buying a copy of the SONG itself?

if you are simply buying the physical cd, then you dont own the song in the first place.

if you are buying a copy of the song, then what do you think of this scenario:

i bought a cd 5 years ago. i liked the cd, i played it often. 3 years ago the cd got too scratched up to play. now, the cd isn't being MADE anymore.

so i go to grokster, or kazaa, and download the songs that were on the cd.

is that stealing? if i purchased THE SONGS back when i bought the cd, then i should be provided a replacement cd at little or no cost, or cost of materials to make the cd.
