Why is this characterised as upholding a "a controversial court decision"?

What is so controversial about saying that the manufacturer of a product is not necessarily liable for the uses to which it may be put? If the law was otherwise, then MS would be fined for all the viruses that attack Windows users. Heck, they were written using Windows...

Gives a whole new meaning to "hoist with your own petard".
